Academy

Founded in 2015, the Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (PMHA) was built on a vision to provide elite hockey development in a community-focused environment. Founder Rod Collins, who has spent many years working within hockey academies and player development programs, recognized an opportunity to bring professional-level training to Pilot Mound, Manitoba. Throughout his career, Rod has helped develop high-level players, including NHL stars Sidney Crosby and Jonathan Toews.

PMHA began with a single male hockey team composed of student-athletes from Canada, the United States, Finland, and Ukraine. From the outset, the academy attracted players seeking a combination of competitive hockey, academic success, and personal growth. The program quickly gained momentum, supported by the welcoming Pilot Mound community and a shared commitment to helping young athletes reach their full potential.

As the academy grew, so did its programs, facilities, and coaching resources. Within a few years, PMHA expanded to include a female team and enhanced its training environment with additional coaching expertise and development opportunities. This growth allowed the academy to offer a more comprehensive experience for student-athletes while maintaining the individualized attention that has become a hallmark of the program.

Today, PMHA welcomes players from across Canada and around the world who are looking to advance their skills in a structured, supportive, and highly competitive setting. Student-athletes benefit from professional coaching, on-ice skill development, strength and conditioning programs, academic support, and valuable life experiences that prepare them for success both on and off the ice.

The academy currently offers four programs: Male U15 Prep, Male U17 Prep, Male U18 Prep, and Female U18 Prep. While the programs continue to evolve, PMHA remains committed to its founding principles of excellence, character development, and community. The combination of elite hockey training and small-town values creates a unique environment where athletes can grow as players, students, and individuals.

More than just a hockey academy, PMHA is a community where athletes build lifelong friendships, develop leadership skills, and pursue their goals in a supportive and family-oriented atmosphere. Through hard work, dedication, and a passion for development, the Pilot Mound Hockey Academy continues to help student-athletes take the next step in their hockey journey.
